In a society increasingly aware of its environmental impact, understanding the effects of our actions is a crucial step in adapting our behavior.
With this in mind, Monizze introduces a new feature in its mobile app: the estimation of the carbon footprint of your meal voucher purchases.
For each transaction made with your meal vouchers, you can now see the associated CO2 emissions, understand them with clear comparisons, and adjust your consumption habits accordingly.
How to activate the feature in your app?
- Open your app and scroll down to the “Carbon footprint” tab in the Hub.
- Grant access permissions and complete your profile to refine the accuracy of your carbon footprint estimate.
What happens next? The estimated CO2 emissions will appear under each transaction made with your meal vouchers.
Simple and intuitive.
You can also check your monthly CO2 footprint estimate anytime in the Hub.
Different environmental impacts based on spending type
Every type of purchase has a different carbon footprint. For example, dining at a restaurant, grocery shopping at a supermarket, or buying vegetables from a small local store all have distinct environmental impacts.
Our algorithm assigns a specific carbon value based on the type of establishment where you made your purchase, allowing for a relevant estimation of your transaction’s impact.
To respect your privacy, our system does not analyze the details of your shopping cart.
Refine estimates by completing your profile
To estimate the carbon footprint of a transaction, we rely on three key factors:
- The total transaction amount
- The type of establishment
- The information provided in your profile
This model is based on estimates and is not 100% precise, but the more details you provide about your consumption habits, the more refined your footprint calculation will be.
Reliable and diverse sources
To ensure the accuracy of our estimates, we use data from various recognized sources, including governments, research institutions, private companies, foundations, associations, and NGOs. These data are integrated into an automated model based on the Open Standard Framework, ensuring a transparent methodology.
A commitment to more responsible consumption
With this feature, we aim to provide Monizze users with a simple and reliable tool to better understand the environmental impact of their purchases.
To make things clearer, we’ll also show you what your CO2 footprint represents.
For example, if last month your carbon footprint was 98.4 kg of CO2, that would be equivalent to consuming 42 liters of gasoline.
By becoming aware of your carbon footprint, you can adjust your consumption habits and contribute—at your own level—to a more sustainable way of living.

Good to know
This feature was developed in partnership with ecolytiq, whose mission is to encourage concrete environmental actions. By providing consumers with clear information on the carbon footprint of their purchases, we aim to raise awareness and encourage more sustainable consumption habits.
