What is two-factor authentication (2FA)?
Two-factor authentication, commonly known as 2FA or MFA (Multi-Factor Authentication), is a method to enhance the login process by requiring an additional verification step. Besides a password, 2FA requires a second proof of identity to confirm that the user is who they claim to be.
This second proof of identity can take various forms:
- Something you know: A PIN code, the answer to a secret question, or a secondary password.
- Something you have: A smartphone, a USB security key, or a card reader.
- Something you are: A fingerprint or facial recognition.
In most cases, 2FA combines a password (something you know) with a code generated by a mobile app or sent via SMS (something you have). This means that even if a cybercriminal obtains your password, they won’t be able to access your account without also having access to your second authentication factor.
Why is two-factor authentication important?
With the rise of cybercrime, passwords—even complex ones—are no longer sufficient to protect sensitive information. Password databases are increasingly being hacked and leaked online, making millions of users vulnerable.
Cybercriminals use various techniques, such as phishing and exploiting security flaws, to gain access to your personal data. 2FA significantly reduces these risks.
Imagine your password gets leaked—without 2FA, a hacker could theoretically access your emails or any other accounts that share the same login credentials. However, with 2FA enabled, the hacker would also need access to your phone. This extra security barrier discourages hacking attempts and helps protect your personal data.
Implementing 2FA at Monizze
That’s why we introduced two-step verification for all our users! Below, you’ll find more details on how to activate it, its benefits, and how to extra-secure your Monizze app as well.
How to activate 2FA on your Monizze account?
Follow these simple steps to enable two-step verification on your Monizze account:
- Monizze mobile app: Open the app and go to the Hub. Select the “Security” option and follow the instructions to activate two-step verification. Make sure you have installed the latest version of the Monizze app (version 4.17.1 or later) before enabling two-step verification.
- MyMonizze via the website: Log into your account, go to the “My Account” section, select “Security,” and follow the on-screen steps.
And what about the Monizze mobile app?
When you open your Monizze app, you can also add extra security measures. In the Hub, under the Security tab, you can easily enable facial recognition, fingerprint authentication, or a PIN code to log into the Monizze app—making your account even more secure!
